Yes, we’re Biracial / Mixed / Multiracial—proudly and unapologetically so!
But that’s not all we are…
I recently shared some of the biggest challenges we face as Mixed folks.
A few days ago, Karin Richey posted this very intriguing query in the group Unapologetically Biracial, where she is one of the administrators:
I loved the question and quickly responded:
BLEWISH Boomer, spiritual, radical, witchy, holistic, and hood.
As the other responses poured in, I found them wise, brave, touching, funny, heartwarming, tear-inducing, educational, and oh-so-relatable. Here’s a paraphrased roundup to represent the delicious diversity that reminds us of the full (and ever-growing) spectrum of our humanity. Note: Regarding grammar and punctuation, I generally tried to represent the way folks responded.
In addition to being Biracial, what else are you unapologetically?
Introvert and gay
Bisexual, polyam, atheist, geeky, author of some awesomely bad poetry, Bipolar and ADHD
Brutally honest
Thick and sassy
Digital nomad, animal enthusiast, and unapologetically honest.

I do things to my own beat. I don’t wait for anyone anymore to do fun things or travel. I’m unapologetic about my honesty and my sense of fashion. I actually have learned to love myself—unapologetically.
A 40-something second-time badass breastfeeding until they self-wean and never with a damn cover Blewchi mama AND tech leader at the same time. It’s unusual—I’ve never met another human with my tri-racial / cultural mix nor a mom who “long-term” breastfeeds unapologetically and runs a tech shop. It’s unapologetic but it’s lonely.

So yeah, recognize and respect our Multiracial / ethnic / national identities but also see our even more diverse—and much broader—humanity. Our “unapologeticness” encompasses an ever-growing list of our many dimensions.
To Karin Richey for the question, and all of the beautiful folks who responded with such grace, candor, and transparency:
I didn’t see original post but I love seeing people list their identities! For me in addition to Mixed I say, “the busiest, bigender, bisexual-polyamorous, atheist, comic book nerd, cat mom, expat/immigrant, and award winning podcaster!” 😜
