You are so very welcome, Rochelle--and thank YOU for working with me and for spearheading this movement! Please keep me updated so I can report your progress on the blog!
I want to applaud Rochelle for her work around mixed-racial heritage. Thanks for sharing this TaRessa.
Although I support my interracial siblings in doing whatever we need to empower ourselves, I have a mixed reaction (pun intended) to the idea of a mixed-race heritage month. This just shows that we, like any community, are not monolithic.
Initially I thought, do we need a separate month? Why not just make sure we are included in our respective racial/ethnic heritage month(s)?
The more I think about this, I realize it isn't either-or. We can do both. We each enter our identity journeys in whatever way feels comfortable. Having multiple options to do so allows for more inclusion.
Go forth, Rochelle! I just vote for partnering with our mono-racial communities. There is strength numbers. We are apart of those heritages, too. That's diversity.
